The Challenge
The client had a healthcare portal supporting care coordination for transitional care teams and management. Staff were manually filtering patient details from individual files and manually inserting or updating them into the portal one by one. With multiple portal instances to manage, each with unique conditions and requirements, the process was complex and error-prone. The client also needed visibility into daily activities — such as how many patients were admitted or discharged from specific locations — in the form of automated reports.
Our Solution
We created an SSIS package to read all incoming patient files and used a C# script to generate the XML payload for each patient. The XML is then submitted to the portal via REST API to perform the insert or update. To fully automate the process, we built batch files to move incoming files to the correct folders and execute the SSIS packages using the dtexec tool, triggered by Windows Task Scheduler. For reporting, we implemented SSRS to provide structured daily activity reports, and built a Power BI Dashboard to give management real-time visibility into patient care activities.
